Gay people are NOT federally protected. Do your research people. This is fact.

This post of mine on being fired for being gay has THOUSANDS of notes and an equal amount of reblogs with my complete text still attached. This means I’m seeing a lot of ignorance attached to my words.

My favorite so far is this person who reblogged and said “doesn’t affirmative action prevent this? and isn’t it a national law?……maybe i’m crazy but i highly doubt ANY state could get away with it. i’m calling bullshit.”

Before calling “bullshit” on something that is obviously a flippant topic for you but effects EVERY aspect of my life, please do your research.  And let’s face it, this person isn’t “crazy”, they’re just ignorant, and most likely straight, therefore why bother they take the 30 seconds to get the facts.

Gay people are NOT a federally protected class. This is not my “opinion”, this is not a rant,  this is a fact.

You may very easily live in a state where it is legal for gays to be fired for being gay, but you may have been lucky enough to work for employers who adopt the practices of protecting the LGBTQ community by adding amendments to their corporate standing to protect employees for being fired for these reasons.

Keep in mind that this is OPTIONAL for them.

You can live in Ohio and work for say…Nordstrom and NOT be fired for being gay, because they CHOOSE to ADD you to the already existing federally protected classes. That being said, you can work in Ohio for a different company that choose the let the federally protected classes stand as is…not including sexual orientation, identity or gender identity to their list.

This is 100% legal and under the federal government it is their RIGHT.

If a company chooses to add the LGBTQ to their non-discrimination clause, then yes, no matter the state you have a fighting chance. If not…it’s legal.

This was the whole point of the post. This kind of quick arrogance and ignorance.

People need to educate themselves and stop making assumptions about the rights (or lack there of) of the LGBTQ community.

don't even get me started on marriage

    educate before you assume

    LGBTQ
